Global Game Jam and Podcast Episode 4

Hey guys, podcast episode 4 is officially up. Head over to the podcast page and check it out. I decided today I’ll be crashing the Dallas location of the 2012 Global Game Jam. For those who aren’t familiar with the GGJ it’s a 48 hour game development “race”. On friday night GGJ locations around the world get a theme and have the weekend to conceptualize and develop a game based on that theme. Should be fun, we’ll see how many teams need an audio guy ;) . If you’re in the area come by and call dibs on me!

Podcasting

Time got a bit away from me these last couple months and I’ve neglected the dear old news page. So what’s new…hmmmm, well the previously unannounced Tiny Mantis title I’ve been working on is now live. It’s called LEGO Dino Outbreak and can be found here.

Also I’ve bought my ticket to GDC 2012 and I’m quite excited about heading to San Francisco in March. If you’ll be there let me know and we’ll grab grub.

In somewhat sad news my video blogs have been abandoned for the foreseeable future. It was eating up a lot of my time and it didn’t seem to be getting enough views to make it worthwhile. Right before the end I converted it into a show I was calling “The Sound Kitchen” In which I gave tricks on how to make sfx using everyday objects. I intend to come back to that one day when I have the time and money to do the production properly.

Lastly I have started a new podcast with Dave Cain called “Bleeps and Bloops: The Game Audio Podcast” and we are now a few episodes deep. I’m in the process of learning how to get the episodes onto iTunes. All the episodes will be archived on the podcast page and I’ll also post the new episodes as they are recorded here on the news feed.

New podcast, web series and baby

The news updates have been fairly light because a new Welch has entered the building. Kaiden Thomas Welch, my son, was born on November 12 2011. The whole being a new father thing slowed me down for a week or so but Im back!

The website now has a podcast section to host a new show I’m doing with journalist, philosopher and overall cool guy Jon McEwen. The Podcast is called Through Music and we will be discussing music, politics, pop culture, philosophy, and otherwise relevant concepts worthy of discussion. Or sometimes unworthy but fun to talk about none the less. It’s an infotainment show intended to give you relevant information and perspective on important issues within a fun bantery environment.

Vlog episode 8 is live and you can find it on my youtube page which is linked at the footer of this site. In this episode I announce what I hope is to be a new web series that will run within, along side, or replace my current weekly vlog.

Mobile Gaming Is Taking The Market
